Global AI Trend 13: AI leader who makes policies with algorithms

While the use of artificial intelligence is increasing, AI that is in charge of establishment and operation of party has emerged. It is the Danish AI political party ‘Synthetic’. In May 2021, it was founded by Computer Lars the tech artist collective and Mind Future foundation non profit arts and tech organization.

Denmark has a number of political parties as it became easier to establish a political party after adopting a proportional representation system according to the revised constitution in 1953. Currently, there are about 230 minor parties like ‘Synthetic’ in Denmark. This new AI party has made it its primary policy to represent those who want to realize their political vision but do not have money, resources and seats. So they developed an AI algorithm by analyzing the policies of every minor party that hadn't won a parliamentary seat since 1970, and in doing so, AI found a political vision that everyone liked.

They hope to be an alternative for the 15% of voters who did not vote in the 2019 Danish parliamentary elections and aim to win at least one seat in the upcoming June 2023 elections in Denmark. If they do win a seat in Congress, they plan to use the power to connect AI to the work done by members of Congress.

Currently, representative of Synthetic is chat bot called Leader Lars. ‘Synthetic’ communicates with party members through this chat bot. Also, anyone can ask questions about the policy on the instant messenger, Discord. 'Synthetic' is currently proposing a plan to pay 100,000 Kroner (approximately 13.3 million won) as basic income to all citizens, and add 'AI and human coexistence’ in the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a new goal. We need to take a look at Danish politics to see whether a policy that reflects everyone’s opinion is possible. I wonder if AI could help to reach the dream of perfect democracy.
